Data Center Debate, Community Voices Are Being Heard

A Luzerne County legislator has introduced a bill that would allow municipalities across Pennsylvania to place a temporary moratorium on new data center applications.

The proposal is designed to give local governments time to review zoning regulations, infrastructure concerns, and the potential impact these large facilities could have on electricity usage, water resources, traffic, and surrounding communities.

Supporters say the measure would help ensure communities have a voice before major data center developments move forward.

Here in Pennsylvania, we’re setting a higher bar for data center development.

If companies want state support, they must commit to transparent, responsible development — and to protect and benefit the community they’re in.
