A camping trip to Erie County turned tragic Saturday morning for a local couple when high winds brought trees crashing down on a tent, killing an Endeavor man and seriously injuring his wife.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. in the area of Middle Road and Hirtzel Road in North East, according to Erie News Now.
According to officials, high winds caused two large trees to fall directly onto the couple’s tent.
The 47-year-old man was killed in the incident. His wife suffered serious injuries and was transported to UPMC Hamot for treatment. The names of the victims have not yet been released by authorities.
Authorities confirmed the couple was visiting the area from Endeavor, Forest County.
The Pennsylvania State Police and the Erie County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
