Otto-Eldred Opens Season with Strong Showing Against Oswayo Valley
The Otto-Eldred track and field teams opened their season Tuesday in a competitive dual meet against Oswayo Valley, with the boys team earning a narrow victory while the girls came up just short.
The Otto-Eldred boys edged out Oswayo Valley, 78–71, in a hard-fought contest. Leading the way was Landon Coon, who secured wins in both the 200-meter and 400-meter runs. Cayden Rounsville added a victory in the 110-meter hurdles, while Ayden Andrews captured the 300-meter hurdles.
In the field events, Mason Rees won the high jump, Conner Thomas took first in the pole vault, and Mason Schenfield earned top honors in the javelin to help propel the Terrors to victory.
On the girls side, Otto-Eldred battled throughout the meet but fell just short, 65–61. Lexi Prince delivered an outstanding performance, sweeping the throwing events with victories in the discus, shot put, and javelin.
Irelyn Rounsville also had a standout day, winning three events — the 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, and 300-meter hurdles. Tessa Johnston added another first-place finish for Otto-Eldred in the pole vault.
Otto-Eldred will stay busy this week, as the junior high team hosts an NTL league meet Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The varsity squads return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Emporium to take on Cameron County and Smethport.
