A 12-point lead with eight minutes to play evaporated going into the last media timeout for the Pennsylvania girls basketball all-stars, but coach Jamie Evens’ team had an answer.
Pennsylvania looked in control for much of Sunday afternoon’s annual Big 30 Senior Classic at Portville Central School, leading by 12 at halftime and again at the eight-minute mark. But a New York run, sparked by some outside shooting from Portville’s Emma Rhinehart, made it 55-55 entering the final four-minute frame of the afternoon. That’s when Evens made his final substitutions and Pennsylvania relied on defense to bring home the win.
