The Canyon Pilots Association Memorial Day Weekend All-You-Can-Eat Fly-In Breakfast is this Sunday, May 24 from 8 a.m. to noon indoors in the corporate hanger at the Grand Canyon Regional Airport in Delmar Township at 112 Runway Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901. The breakfast is open to the public and will be held rain or shine.

At the breakfast, the success of the Canyon Pilots Association’s aviation scholarship program will be recognized. Currently, there are five scholarship recipients who are employed in aviation with four of them working as pilots for different airlines in the United States and one who is employed as an Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) at the Williamsport Regional Airport. Money for the scholarships is raised through the fly-in breakfasts.

On the menu are ham, eggs, buckwheat pancakes, orange juice, coffee and tea. Also provided are: salt, pepper, sugar, artificial sweetner, milk, butter, maple syrup and ketchup. Tables and chairs will be available so people can sit and eat.

Requested is a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for youngsters 4 to 8 years old. Children ages 3 and under are admitted free.

Parking, including handicapped parking, is available for free.

Weather permitting, pilots in various types of full-size aircraft will fly to the airport for the breakfast. If the weather cooperates, watch them land and take off and have chats with pilots about their aircraft.

Also available, weather permitting, will be airplane flights in Cessna aircraft over the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon for a fee. Raffle winners will get free rides aboard a helicopter.

The Mountain Modelaires, a local group affiliated with the Academy of Model Aeronautics, will have radio controlled model airplanes and helicopters on display in a nearby hanger. While supplies last, club members will be giving away 50 powered free flight airplane kits to youngsters ages 10 to 12 that come to the display in person during the breakfast. Each youngster will receive one Ziploc bag containing instructions, wood and foam parts, a rubber motor and a plastic propeller. With the assistance of a parent, a child can put a powered free flight airplane together at home and fly it.
