Missing 18-year-old in Niagara River

On July 22, 2026, at approximately 10:15 a.m., members of the New York State Police and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to assist the New York State Park Police with a search for a missing 18-year-old, Aung S. Hla of Buffalo, NY.


The preliminary investigation determined that the Hla was fishing in the lower Niagara River Gorge, between Whirlpool State Park and Devil’s Hole State Park, when he entered the water and was not seen again.


Multiple law enforcement agencies and emergency medical personnel are on scene assisting with the search.
