New York State Police Investigating Fatal Vehicle and Pedestrian Crash in Lockport

The New York State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on May 29, 2026, on Sunset Drive in the town of Lockport, Niagara County.


On May 29, 2026, at approximately 9:33 p.m., State Police responded to Sunset Drive for a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.


Preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle traveling on Sunset Drive struck an adult male pedestrian. Troopers arrived on scene and immediately rendered aid, including CPR, until emergency medical personnel arrived.


The pedestrian, identified as LeRoy P. Smith, age 81, of Lockport, was transported for medical evaluation and was later pronounced deceased.


The operator of the vehicle, identified as Sean Michael Patrick Leslie, age 22, of Grand Island, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.


The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, with assistance from uniform members assigned to Lockport, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
