It came down to the wire on Thursday, as Northern Potter Varsity Panthers grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 11-10, over Otto-Eldred. The game was tied at 10 in the bottom of the seventh when Brandon Furman drew a walk, scoring one run.
Bats blistered as Northern Potter Varsity Panthers collected eight hits and Otto-Eldred tallied seven in the high-scoring game.
Otto-Eldred got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ryan Schenfield tripled down the right field line, Wyatt Blendinger singled to left field, and Northern Potter Varsity Panthers committed an error, each scoring one run.
Otto-Eldred added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Macaibe Splain singled down the right field line, Michael Sheeler walked, Schenfield singled, Northern Potter Varsity Panthers committed an error, and Otto-Eldred scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Northern Potter Varsity Panthers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 11-10. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Rees Elmadollar that drove in one.
Conhar Snyder stepped on the bump first for Northern Potter Varsity Panthers. The hurler gave up five hits and eight runs (five earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking three. Jack Sherry stepped on the bump first for Otto-Eldred. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and four runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking seven. Henry Nicholas appeared in relief for Northern Potter Varsity Panthers.
Will Nicholas led Northern Potter Varsity Panthers with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Elmadollar went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Northern Potter Varsity Panthers in hits. Kaydn Shope collected two hits for Northern Potter Varsity Panthers in four at bats.
Nicholas paced Northern Potter Varsity Panthers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying 15 walks for the game. Nicholas, Snyder, Elmadollar, Shope, Colt Houghtaling, and Haydon Bieser each stole multiple bases for Northern Potter Varsity Panthers. Northern Potter Varsity Panthers ran wild on the base paths, amassing 22 stolen bases for the game.
Schenfield provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Otto-Eldred with two runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-4 on the day. Blendinger and Splain each collected multiple hits for Otto-Eldred. Blendinger, Sheeler, Schenfield, and Splain each stole multiple bases for Otto-Eldred. Otto-Eldred stole 15 bases in the game.
Northern Potter Varsity Panthers will travel to Cowanesque Valley for their next game on Saturday.
