Olean Fire Department Press Release: Irving Street/West State Street Fires

604 Irving Street Structure Fire

Date: 05/10/2026Time: 0138

OFD units dispatched for report of a fully involved structure fire with possible entrapment. E41 arrived on scene in 3 minutes of dispatch. Heavy fire was showing on 2 sides of the structure. Interior attack was performed immediately. A search of the 1st floor was completed with negative results. A second hand line was stretched down the side of the house to extinguish fire on the side of the structure. Crews had to force entry into the side door to finish extinguishing fire. Interior stairs were burned through, so crews had to enter 2nd floor via ground ladder to complete a search of the 2nd floor and extinguish fire. No occupants were found in the home. Fire was knocked down within 5 minutes. Crews performed overhaul to extinguish hot spots. Scene was turned over to fire investigation team.


Allegany Fire Department and Westons Mills Fire Department provided standby coverage. Trans Am Ambulance provided EMS coverage at the scene. Portville Air Truck responded to the scene. Love Thy Neighbor also responded to the scene.

 

Structure Fire Response on West State Street

City of Olean Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire with possible entrapment at approximately 9:38 a.m. at 2003 West State Street.


Fire crews arrived on scene within four minutes of dispatch and immediately initiated fire attack operations while simultaneously conducting a primary search of the residence for any occupants. Fire personnel successfully extinguished the fire and completed search operations within three minutes of arrival.

All residents were accounted for at the scene. Occupants were evaluated by emergency personnel and transported to Olean General Hospital by Trans Am Ambulance for treatment.


The incident remains under investigation. City of Olean Fire Department would like to thank TransAm Ambulance, Love Thy Neighbor, District 4 Coordinator, Portville, Allegany, Weston Mills for their support during this incident.
