Woman Charged After Allegedly Swinging Knife at Troopers in Farmington Township

WHAT HAPPENED

Pennsylvania State Police said Tioga County Emergency Services received a call from Amanda Mae Byrd at about 3:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Police said Byrd made various demands and used vulgar language toward dispatchers.

At about 4:26 p.m., members of the Troop F–Mansfield barracks responded to the 200 block of Lost Lane Drive to check on Byrd’s welfare. While troopers attempted to speak with her, police said she armed herself with a large camping knife and swung it in their direction.

Police said Byrd was taken into custody after attempting to pull away, kick both troopers and spit at another member. No troopers were injured.

  • Two counts of aggravated assault under Title 18, Section 2702(a)(2), a first-degree felony

  • Two counts of aggravated assault under Title 18, Section 2702(a)(3), a second-degree felony

  • Two counts of aggravated assault under Title 18, Section 2702(a)(6), a second-degree felony

  • One count of possessing an instrument of a crime under Title 18, Section 907(a), a first-degree misdemeanor

  • Two counts of simple assault under Title 18, Section 2701(a)(1), a second-degree misdemeanor

  • Two counts of simple assault under Title 18, Section 2701(a)(3), a second-degree misdemeanor

  • Two counts of recklessly endangering another person under Title 18, Section 2705, a second-degree misdemeanor

  • Two counts of harassment under Title 18, Section 2709, a summary offense

  • One count of resisting arrest under Title 18, Section 5104, a second-degree misdemeanor

  • One count of misuse of a 9-1-1 system under Title 35, Section 5310, a second-degree misdemeanor

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Byrd was charged through District Court 04-3-01 and lodged in the Tioga County Prison pending preliminary arraignment.
