The wrestling school might just be able to play a little basketball as well.

Thanks to a 62-51 win over Moniteau in the District 9 Class 2A third-place game at DuBois High School on Friday night, Port Allegany is headed to the PIAA playoffs in hoops for just the fourth time in school history and for the first time in 30 years.

A strong start and a strong finish ensured the Gators of their first PIAA playoff berth since qualifying in Class 1A in 1996, when they were the D9 runners-up.

Port Allegany, the fourth seed, led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter, thanks in part to strong outside shooting that saw the Gators bury three 3-pointers, including two from Chase Boyd.
